The L.A. Lakers are quietly setting themselves apart from the rest of the teams in the Western Division. At 7 - 0, nobody is really talking about them. But Kobe Bryant likes it that way. He doesn’t want too much attention focused on the Lakers’ successful start.
And neither does Phil Jackson:
“There have been a lot of teams that have gotten off to good starts and it doesn’t mean they have a great finish, but this is what we want to do and we’re doing the right thing.”
The best start to a season in Lakers franchise history is 11-0 in 1997-98. If they keep going the way they are going they might just beat their own record.
As for those analysts who picked the Lakers to win the NBA Championship … I still think the Celtics are going to repeat.

Every week throughout the 2008-2009 football season I am going to pick a “Game of the Week.”
The purpose of this post is to talk about a match-up that I think is the most significant out of all the scheduled NFL games that are going to be played the following Sunday.
After looking at the schedule, my pick for the Game of the Week is …

Though she underperformed at the 2008 Olympics this past summer, Alicia Sacramone is working hard to get back in her fans’ good graces.
According to the Boston Herald.com, Alicia was back in Winchester, MA, this week shooting for a possible reality show with Lou Reda Productions.
I didn’t know this, but Alicia designed all of her costumes for the Olympics. And it looks like she’s trying to showcase that talent among other things.
I know the public swooned over Alicia during the Olympics, but will they gather to watch her on television now that the thrill of the Olympic games is over?
We shall see …

Most talented? Maybe.
Nicest? Without a doubt!
Chris Paul, according to Yahoo! Sports, couldn’t leave the New Orleans’ locker room on Saturday until he had finished helping a friend tie his tie correctly.
Forget the fact that he had just set an NBA record for his sixth straight double-double of at least 20 points, and 10 assists, passing the achievement set by Oscar Robinson (Hall of Famer) in 1968.
Oh yeah, he also had seven rebounds and four steals.
And, as most guys often do, Paul failed to take credit for the broken record remarking that “assists only occur when your teammates do what they are supposed to be doing.”
Maybe this season Paul will prove the “nice guys finish last” theory is nothing but a bunch of bunk.

I think the Oakland Raiders have “jumped the shark.”
Al Davis has either lost his mind or he’s living in an alternate reality. Does he really thing that letting go of DeAngelo Hall will improve his team???
The Raiders signed Hall to a 70 million dollar contract, plus gave up a second-round draft pick in 2008 and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009 to Atlanta in order to seal the deal.
That’s a lot to pay for only eight games.
Granted Hall hasn’t played up to his potential thus far, but I think one of the leagues top cornerbacks deserves a chance to adjust to a new team. He had 17 interceptions in four seasons with Atlanta, that’s roughly 4.2 a season which is a decent stat.
I just don’t get the decision. You can’t blame poor defense on one player. Hall already had three interceptions this season so far, which put him on pace to tie or beat his average per season.

Can somebody clue me in here? What in the world is Al Davis thinking? Or is he thinking at all?

It’s November 4th … Election Day … the Superbowl of politics.
The fans of each candidate have made their choice, they placed their bets and pulled the lever. And with Barack Obama leading the polls, it looks as though John McCain is the underdog.
Can he pull an upset victory? Can he be the political world’s New York Giants to Obama’s New England Patriots?
I don’t know. But what I do know is that I am going to cast my vote. And like so many of you, I’ll be watching to see who wins the game … er, election … with bated breath.
This is a match-up of the ages and a presidential race we’ll be talking about for years to come.

It looks as though the 2008-2009 will be a good one for women’s college basketball as far as television exposure is concerned.
According to ESPN.com,
Tennessee will host Stanford on Dec. 21 in a rematch of last season’s national championship, one of 148 women’s college basketball games that will air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN360.com this season.
Another awesome stat: All 63 games for the NCAA Tournament will be televised!
For those people who think women’s basketball is on the outs, or will never amount to anything … turn on your television. There are 149 reasons why you just may be wrong.
